(Grade 5 – Grade 8)
The middle years is a time of rapid change and growth
when students develop a deeper sense of identity, confidence and engagement,
building the skillset to become self-directed learners.
Building on the foundational skills and learning experiences of the Lower Loop, our Middle Loop team is staffed by experienced middle years educators who are passionate advocates for children as they transition into young adolescents. We understand that the ‘middle years’ is a time of rapid change and growth and that is important for us to help students develop a deeper sense of identity, fuel their confidence to engage, and build the inner confidence to become self-directed learners.
Students at this age begin to develop strong opinions, personal traits and human qualities which we will support, share and learn about in Community Time. In Learning Labs we will continue to focus on the development of essential academic skills. In Explore Time we provide learning opportunities for students to actively engage with Beyond the Walls experiences. This allows students to authentically and contextually apply their learning which deepens their connection and understanding of the world in which they live.
MIDDLE LOOP : A general guideline to the learning targets
English Language Arts
This includes additional languages that the students may learn and/or Heritage languages. Heritage language is the language that each student selects as their native language, upon consultation with their family and VERSO’s Learning Designers. The Heritage Language learning progressions will be modeled after the English Language Arts based on the student’s language proficiency level and not on their grade level. Students who hold Thai passport must study Thai language as part of the Thai Ministry of Education requirements.
